Since the early 90's I have dreamed of having a dedicated HT (home theater) room. Our HT has always shared space with our great rooms. Both homes we have built have windows all across one wall in the great room with numerous large openings around the room. For some reason when designing these homes I never gave much consideration to a dedicated room for HT. While HT has been good in the great room, it is difficult to get the magic that can be obtained with a dedicated room. With the days of high definition and good quality inexpensive equipment coming upon us, the search for a better movie experience at home is becoming more of a reality for many people. Since we have no future plans of ever moving again, I knew I would never get another chance to design a house with a dedicated HT room. How could I improvise? The attic would not work... nor other room in the house would ever work, and adding on to the house would be too expensive for us. The only option left was to give up my half of our 2 car garage. While not necessarily the ideal place to build an HT room, it will suffice and has made for a dramatic improvement in our home theater experience.
This should be our first, only, and last dedicated home theater. so I wanted to make sure I did it right while keeping cost to a minimum. I am the kind of person that trys to design for functionality and use more than impression so you won't find a lot of fancy in our HT room. Not that fancy isn't okay, but fancy is usually expensive, and fancy doesn't fit well with hillbilly's. So... plain and simple it is.
Much of the equipment that was in our great room is used in the HT room, the exception being the Toshiba 65" RPTV, it stayed put. New equipment in the HT room includes a front projector, and eventually I'll be selling my amp and pre-amp, picking up a receiver and pocketing some change to help foot the bill for the projector. Sometimes we have to sacrifice. While most of what you will see is from my own ideas there was certainly influence from several family members and friends (including lots of forum buddy's).

If you don't allow javascript then you won't be able to see the menu but can still click NEXT and follow through the 6 remaining construction pages.
Many thanks to everyone for the great advice I received during the design and construction.
